They are celebrating &#8211; not surprising, since Buffalo won the game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/boxscores\/196211110sdg.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">40-20<\/a>. But did these fans really make the trip from Buffalo? Yes indeed, as several newspaper clips confirm. The first reference is brief mention in the <em>Buffalo Courier Express<\/em>, on September 17, 1962:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"304\" height=\"257\" src=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-courier-express-9-19.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-courier-express-9-19.png 304w, https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-courier-express-9-19-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$245 equates to about $2500 in today&#8217;s dollars. That sounds about right; these days, the flights would be cheaper and the game tickets more expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trip also came to the notice of the <em>San Diego Evening Tribune<\/em> (October 20, 1962):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"373\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/tribune-10-20.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/tribune-10-20.png 373w, https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/tribune-10-20-297x300.png 297w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day after the game, the <em>Buffalo News<\/em> had this small note, which pegs the attendance at 68:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"516\" src=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-news-11-12-1024x516.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-206\" style=\"width:290px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-news-11-12-1024x516.png 1024w, https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-news-11-12-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-news-11-12-768x387.png 768w, https:\/\/ebydurbin.net\/aflhistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/buffalo-news-11-12.png 1069w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even in the early days of the AFL, it looks like the Bills had a hard-core group of fans eager to travel to see their team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chargers&#8217; team photographer Charles Aqua Viva snapped this shot during the November 11, 1962 game against the Buffalo Bills at Balboa Stadium: Looks like dozens of Bills fans, some holding a &#8220;Buffalo Bills Boosters Club&#8221; sign.
